This is the way the forest floor should look.  The plants on the ground are May Apples.  When in flower, there is a short stem that rises above the centre of the plant with one flower on it, that later  develops a small fruit that looks like a small apple.  These plants can not tolerate being disturbed and will break and dry up. If you walk through here I will break your legs.
